Arugula (Eruca sativa)

Arugula is an aromatic, peppery-flavored salad green. Also known as rocket, roquette, rugula and rucola, this green is beyond popular in Italian cuisine. And it’s super healthy: high in vitamin A, C, K and a multitude of other minerals and vitamins. Many studies have suggested that increasing consumption of plant foods like arugula decreases the risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease while promoting a healthy complexion and overall lower weight.

Arugula is a heat sensitive plant that produces more growth if grown at 64 to 72F (18 to 22C). You may start harvesting single leaves approximately 25 days after planting or harvest the whole plant after one month of growing – it’s up to you. Harvest the whole pod in 30 to 35 days – at this point it tastes best and has the highest nutritional value. If your Arugula starts to flower, you can use these edible little white flowers to garnish your dishes, but don’t expect it to grow more edible leaves after that – the plant is done after flowering.

‘COOL BEANS n SPROUTS’ Brand All about your Microgreens ! To reap the health benefits of microgreens, eat them immediately after harvest. Microgreens, like most other superfoods that are consumed fresh, begin to lose their nutritional value rapidly after harvest. Consider growing your own microgreens at home as this will allow you to decide exactly when you harvest your crop.Another way to boost the nutritional value of recipes made with microgreens is to use extra-virgin olive oil or another healthy oil. The presence of oil helps improve the bioavailability of the fat-soluble nutrients in microgreens (carotenoids, vitamin E, and vitamin K). Some people use glass jars to grow their sprouts. If you already have a glass jar and don’t plan on growing a bunch of sprouts at once, you can use this technique and just get a plastic lid that is designed to fit on wide-mouthed glass jars – specifically for growing sprouts. A mason Jar also works. Between ‘sprouting sessions’ you will need to clean and sanitize your sprouting jar. Be careful not to leave any soap or residue in the jar, as this can inhibit the growth of your next batch of sprouts. First, soak your seeds in a Vinegar and water solution, for 15 minutes to kill any harmful bacteria. Rinse well and soak the seeds in plain water overnight. The next morning, drain the seeds and place them in a mason jar. There are mesh lids made just for sprouting, or you can just replace the center part of the mason jar lid with cheesecloth or loosely woven muslin to allow air to circulate and excess water to drain. One to Twice daily, rinse and drain the seeds, placing your jar upside down within a bowl or tray to catch drainage. Within about 5 days, you can expect plump and flavorful sprouts. On the last day, place them in in a bright area, (not direct sun), being very careful not to let them dry out. This allows chlorophyll to form, which will cause them to become that healthful green color. God Bless

arugula vitamin k REVIEW – IMAGE SOURCE AMAZON

  • 7 Brassicas combined to be our most nutritious mix yet
  • High levels of Antioxidants, such as Sulfurophane
  • Combination of Broccoli, Cabbage, Mustard, Arugula, Radish & Cress
  • Harvest in 3-6 Days
  • Tested for germination and satisfaction guaranteed!

These 7 delicious greens are combined together to provide your body with the maximum amount of nutrition possible. When certain types of seeds are combined together, you get a much wider range of nutritional value from a plethora of vitamins and minerals. these antioxidants are multiplied numerous times when in sprout form versus full maturity which is why sprouts are so nutritious, but this mix in particular. These seeds were all chosen for this mix due to their similar growth rates, along with complimentary textures and tastes.

As far as nutrition goes though, you will benefit from an overwhelming amount of Vitamins A, B, C, E, and K, Calcium, Zinc, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, and Antioxidants, along with up to 35% protein.

Sprouting Instructions:

Arugula and Cress are both gelatinous seeds which mean they should not undergo the initial soak when sprouting. This will cause them to turn into a huge gelatinous mess which will never sprout. Since they are in this mix, we have included a much smaller amount of these two seeds to offset the gel that they form. An initial soak of the entire mix for about 4 hours maximum should be fine if you feel the desire to soak the seeds. After this point you can sprout them in a mason jar or Easy Sprouter but there are more efficient ways that we recommend.

Other methods to try first include soil, hemp bag, unbleached heavy-duty paper towel, unglazed clay pot bottom, an unbleached coffee filter, or Baby Blanket.

  • Deliciously crisp great for salads and sandwhiches.
  • Alfalfa sprouts grow quickly, sprouting in just 3 to 5 days
  • Easy to grow
  • Perfect for mixed greens salads
  • Excellent in stir fry

Alfalfa is a perennial forage legume which normally lives four to eight years, but can live more than 20 years, depending on variety and climate. Alfalfa sprouts are the shoots of the alfalfa plant, harvested before they become the full-grown plant. Because they are so small, the sprouts contain a concentrated amount of certain vitamins and minerals such as calcium, vitamin K and vitamin C. Alfalfa sprouts are the young shoots of the alfalfa plant, eaten within four to seven days of germination. Along with many other sprouts, they are eaten as a health food and can be found sprinkled on sandwiches, mixed with salads, or added to stir fries. Since the seeds can be germinated in controlled environments year round, there is no specific season in which they are grown. Alfalfa sprouts grow quickly, sprouting in just 3 to 5 days. You can grow them in a glass jar or a small tray, and you only need 1 tablespoon of seeds to get 1 1/2 cups of sprouts. • Height: Up to 3 ft. • Planting : Can be sown in spring or fall.
